Arabic Gum in a glance

A natural and organic product derived from hardened acacia tree sap, harvested in the Sahel region of Africa. Gum Arabic is used primarily by the food industry since it has the ability to increase the bacteria life.
Applications: It is used as a stabilizer, a binder, an emulsifier or a viscosity-increasing agent, not only in confectionery, soft drinks, wine, liquor, and dietary fiber, but also for non-food products such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, printing, ceramics, photosensitive chemicals, textiles, paper, ink, glues, paints ,adhesives cosmetic lotions and creams. Since It is a great source for prebiotic and soluble dietary fibers, it has many applications in the pharmaceutical industry.
Gum belt: The vast arid wooded savannas that span sub-Saharan Africa, from Mauritania and Senegal, in the west, to Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya and the United Republic of Tanzania, in the east. Crude gum Arabic is also produced in smaller quantities in South Asia and the Arabian Peninsula. Important differences exist between producing countries. Sudan has historically played a leadership role in the gum Arabic industry as reports indicate, by nearly 80% of the global production.
International recognition: Gum Arabic is traded under the HS Code 13012000. As a food additive, it is recognized under E number E414. Other classifications of gum Arabic include CAS number 9000-01-5 and EC number 232-519-5.

Social benefits: Due to the fact that the Acacia trees produce more with severe conditions like extreme hot or cold weather, the farmers focus on it during these periods. Which helps strengthening their social life. Gum arabic is a promising commodity for producing countries due to its potential to generate foreign exchange, promote sustainable agriculture and forestry, ensure food security and combat desertification. The transformation of gum Arabic production into more income-generating activities can secure rural livelihoods, empower vulnerable groups, including women, and promote synergies with natural resource management and climate change mitigation.
